Sometimes malfunctions happen. Likely the only reason you’ll be looking for guides on how to open PS4 is because your console may be broken. Unless maybe you’d like to take a look at the internal setup or possibility for hardware customization. But still, I think the chances are rather unlikely.

First, we’ll need to go over what exactly you’ll need in order to remove and open PS4 of yours. So to do the job you’ll like need screwdrivers. So what you’ll need is a Torx T8/T9, Phillips PH0/PH1 and lastly a Tweezer.

With our tutorial, you’ll be able to easily disassemble the PS4 for cleaning or replacing purposes such as components. Sometimes you may need to know how to remove a hard drive, power supply or fan. If you’re a little bit of hardware savvy, you can replace some of the inner workings without spending all that money for a brand new PS4. Here is the best step-by-step guide to open PS4:

Steps To Open PS4

Step 1) The first step is to start by removing the top panel of the PS4 case. You’ll be delighted to know it’s simple to remove. Just pull up the case until it clamps open. By pulling up we mean pull it towards you.

Step 2) Next you’ll remove one screw that fixes the hard drive basket. And make sure to remove the hard drive. The hard drive is the gray piece in the picture. On the backside of the PS4, you’ll see a few connection ports. Go to those ports and simply remove those stickers that are holding those ports. Below the stickers, you’ll find screws that you will have to unscrew for yourself.

Step 3: Use the T8 Torx screwdriver mentioned earlier to remove the 4 screws on the bottom. One screw located on the far left, two located in the middle and one located on the far right.

Step 4) Next you’ll want you to place your hands over the case. And remove the cover of the PS4 case. Open the case near the same side. You can remove the power supply of the PS4 console as well. To do so remove the screws using the T8 Torx. Then unscrew the ones that stick out using the PH0 screwdriver.

Step 5) There will be 4 wire connectors and you’ll want to disconnect them from the power supply. Sometimes the power supply will be dead or limited in power so you’ll need to purchase a new power supply without buying a whole new PS4. The connectors are quite finicky and tight. This makes it difficult to try to take out. So you’ll need to use cable tweezers to actually remove those 4 wire connectors.

Step 6) From there, you can use a plastic tool to nudge and pull the right side and left side. This will loosen everything so you can pull the power supply out. Make sure you are disconnecting the blue-ray disc drive cable away from the PS4 motherboard. The motherboard is the silver rectangle plate with green little gears. To remove the motherboard, simply use the tweezers and press them onto the iron plate and pull the cable to the side.

Step 7) Now you can pull out the optical drive power connector simply by lifting that up. You can also disconnect the WiFi antenna away from the motherboard. You want to remove the two screws that secure the top cover of the PS4.

Step 8) Now you want to pull up the cover. And move to the opposite side of the top cover and pull the cover-up as well.

Step 9) There will be 12 screws in which you’ll need to use their Torx Screws to remove all of them. There are two screens that are unique down the bottom middle of this motherboard. Use the PH0 screwdriver to remove those. You want to ensure that you disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard.

Step 10) Now you want to remove the top metal panel and look at the thermal pads. The thermal pads are small sticker looking pads. Make sure to not lose them. Lift up the PS4 motherboard. Remove the old thermal paste from the metal panel and from the CPU on the PS4 motherboard.

By following these steps you can open PS4 and Now you’ve got the parts removed so you can easily clean out the PS4 with ease or you have the parts removed to replace them as well.
